Beautiful lake Whiskeytown in northern CA.

Whiskeytown Lake from the South Side

Whiskeytown lake in northen CA, in Shast county west of Redding CA. The water is blue, green, clearn and gorgeous.
Whiskeytown lake is beautiful and wonderful to swim in.

Finally, I managed to get to the lake and swim. I have been to this same spot a couple of times, but not yet this year. It is located on the South side of the lake, after you drive over the dam. I love this spot, the water reminds me of the sea.

Whiskey town lake is wonderful because no matter the drought, it will always be full and ready for activities, camping, boating, kayaking, skiing, sailing, or whatever activity you would like.

Below is Lily, my Mom’s dog, she loved the water, but not necessarily to swim. She never went any deeper than her stomach. We were at the beach for two hours and she did not sit once.

These pictures were taken on the south east side of the lake, it has a white sand and more granite.  Other parts of the lake can have red sand for instance.

Old Historic Tower House District, French Gulch, Shasta County

Historically, this was known as a stop over for people heading east and west via the old 299 route.  An old neighbor once told my dad, that hat he used to stop for a bed, meal and shower, all for only $3.00.  The man used to run sheep from Cottonwood to Hayfork back in the early 1900’s.  I imagine that back then  it took days to travel that distance with sheep and no automobiles.

Also this was land of the Wintu native Americans.  It is a beautiful little valley where two creeks converge.  There are open pastures, and mountains on all sides, and lots of trees.

This is the view (the photo to the right) as you are standing in front of the house.  Beyond the fence is highway 299 and also a creek, there are two creeks which converge on this historic location.  That is part of the attraction of this little park.  It also has picnic tables, a walking bridge or two, and you can continue hiking back to the historic mining areas.

Walking bridge.

This photograph is of the walking bridge.  The views are spectacular in all directions here.
As you cross the  creek and head back towards where the direction of the old mines are, you can see a barn and another house is to the left of it.

Canyon Creek, Junction City, California

Beautiful Canyon Creek in Junction City, CA, is a great place to swim, large rocks and beautiful clear deep waters makes a great place to dive and swim.
Canyon Creek swimming hole.

Went swimming at this swimming hole today, it was very hot, and the water perfectly cool. It was also very refreshing and beautiful. There were kids there and adults jumping off the rocks, into the deeper parts of the water. Although there are still fires burning around this area, it happened to be pretty clear at the time we were there.

Although swim season is just about over, the days are still pretty hot, and I am sure people are still swimming now.  The water is probably a bit cooler now.  But in the hot days it’s refreshing.  There are still many fires happening all around California and the skies can be a bit overcast, and smokey at times.  Pictured here it was a smokey day.

Predator Kayaker on the Trinity River, California

I went to a wedding down river as we say, at the Strawhouse Resort. It’s down river, on the Trinity river heading to Eureka and the northern coast. The resort is located right on the river, and as a guest we could access the river, and relax. While we were there, this kayak came by with a guy wearing a mask. It was slightly freaky to tell you the truth. We were not quite sure what we were looking at.

The Predator Kayaker proceeded to give us quite a viewing, and paddled upriver a bit, as to stay longer, as we took pictures of him. Then shortly there after he was on his way! Thanks guy for the interesting show! 🙂
