Celebrating the Mountain of Butterflies discovery, I thought I would post my pictures of a local Monarch butterfly here in California this last spring.  Google had their representation, and this is mine. I love the Monarch butterfly.

What is the Mountain of Butterflies?

I was wondering the same thing.  Apparently 41 years ago, before 1975, people searched all over the north American continent, searching for where the butterflies went to during the winter.

After decades long of searching involving thousands of volunteers, then, they finally found out the answer.

A man names Ken Brugger, and Catalina Trail discovered one of nature’s most magnificent mysteries, where the Monarch butterfly spends the winter!  Apparently there are these forests with these trees, oyamel. Click on the name of the trees to see pictures of them in the thousands on the trees.

The Monarchs gather in Mexico’s easternmost Sierra Madre Mountains.  The Monarch Butterflies gather in the millions.  It looks quite amazing!

I love both this flower, and the butterfly.  The butterflies, Swallowtails you see all around Trinity and Shasta counties, and all of California.

The flower on the other hand, I have only seen in Trinity county along the Trinity river.  My mother called it a Chinese Lilac but I am not sure that is what it is.  We didn’t plant it, and it just came up along the river.  The insects and butterflies do love it.

Please if you know the actual name of the flower let me know.  It is also very fragrant.

Flowers with insects, at the Sundial Bridge and Turtle Bay’s McConnell Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

I went on another trip to the Sundial Bridge and Turtle Bay Gardens in Redding, California  This local attraction is free, that is the wonderful part.  The bridge is free, the walking and biking trails are free, and consequently they actually go through all the way to the Shasta Dam from the bridge.   It offers so much, exploration park, museum, cafe, outdoor playground for children, old monolith, animals, and a seasonal butterfly exhibition.  It is quite spectacular and you could easily spend a few hours there with your family or friends.
