These are a couple photos that I took of the red tail hawk at the Turtle Bay Exploratorium. They have feedings daily where you can watch the birds being fed. This was a rare occasion when the trainers were with the birds. They were out in the main walkway.

Sundial Bridge over the Sacramento River, Shasta County

The Sundial Bridge is always a favorite to visit and explore for locals and visitors.  The Turtle Bay Sundial Bridge is a wonderful walking bridge landmark designed by Santiago Calatrava.  You can visit his website here.   There are only a few bridges in the United States and the residents of Shasta county are very fortunate to have this monumental piece of architecture.
The Sundial Bridge is a must see if you are passing by on Interstate 5 by Redding in Shasta county.  The bridge is over the Sacramento river, which does not begin in Sacramento, but up in Shasta county.  In addition to this wonderful feat of architecture, the Sundial Bridge is located in the middle of a beautiful arboretum and a wildlife museum and exploration park.

The bridge is very well designed, and is an actual sundial.

The bridge is an actual sundial and you can tell the time of day with it.  It’s big as you can imagine, the part of the structure that jets out in the sky is the dial part.  Right next to the sundial is a garden a a walkway, bike way also, along the river.

The bridge is designed by architect, Santiago Calatrava.

The design for the Sundial Bridge was conceived by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the world’s premier bridge designer. Calatrava has built bridges, airports, rail terminals, stadiums, and other structures around the world. Though he recently completeda major expansion of the Milwaukee Art Museum, and has been selected to design the new Oakland Cathedral, this is his first freestanding bridge in the United States.

Sundial Bridge, Sacramento River in Redding California

The shadow of the sundial bridge on the spring grass and blue sky, at the Sundial bridge.Sundial bridge in Redding California, over the Sacramento river.
This is an excellent family destination. Allow at least two or three hours at the park as there is so much to do. They always have some recent exhibition of art or historical art, there is an aquarium with native species of fish. There is an old mill, Paul Bunyun’s Forest Camp, which has been restored as a learning center, and home to many reptiles and animals. There is a playground for kids to run around and play in. There are birds such as owls and red tail hawks outside as you walk between buildings, and other exotic birds also, and butterflies. You may even catch them during times when they are feeding the birds, animals and fish.
Turtle Bay Exploratorium has hands on experimental area for kids to learn about the environment. The Exploration Park is located on the Sacramento River, right at the Sundial Bridge, where you are free to roam across and enjoy the river, and there you will find the McConnell arboretum and botanical gardens.
Not to forget the Turtle Bay Cafe, located right at the museum and also the bridge. What a way to take in a meal! I recommend checking their site to check their schedule.
