Yesterday was the Strawberry moon, and one of my favorite things to do is watch the moon rise.  This time it was the Strawberry moon.

I ran to get the camera and the moon had already risen above the treeline.  I was expecting to see more red, as there was a fire close by, but it was clear.  This isn’t red from the sky, it’s the exposure.

The Farmers’ Market in Weaverville, is every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.   Next week is the last week for the season.  It’s held in the field next to the Highland Art Museum.

One of the vendors is Willow Creek Organic Farms, located down river, at Willow Creek.  It’s about an hour or so from Weaverville heading to the coast.

Willow Creek Farm did such a nice job displaying their vegetables and fruits that I asked to take a photograph.  The chalkboards were a nice touch to their display.

Here is a link to their website and their Facebook page.

Wild Common Merganser Ducks in the Trinity River

Two wild common Merganser ducks swimming on the Trinity river.

These ducks are amazing!  I looked up these ducks and they are the common Merganser wild duck also called the Goosander.  they are larger ducks of lakes and rivers, and they prefer the fresh water. They are common to North America, Europe and Asia.

I love to watch them ducking in and out of the water getting food. They eat fish and nest in holes in trees.  Which makes perfect sense there are a lot of trees in this area.

These Common Merganser wild ducks like to swim up the side of the river, and then they float down.  sometimes with little ducklings following.  it’s adorable. In the Trinity river, we mostly see these wild ducks in the winter.
