Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween everyone! It is going to be a wonderful day in Shasta County a warmer Halloween if you will. I have not yet decided if I will dress up yet, but I have my Catwoman costume handy, and there will be trick or treating in the neighborhood. The picture below was taken I think two years ago. I found it in my folders the other day and had to post it.

Carved Pumpkins

Cat eyes carved out of the pumpkin and black pen mouth and whiskers drawn in, lit up at night.

It’s almost that time of the year, where we carve pumpkins for the Halloween season.  I like to cook the pumpkin seeds afterwards.  Here are the photos.

We had a cat year, one year, as you can see.

Here is the cat pumpkin, which is the silhouette of the cat, including the tail.  This one was done by the neighbor girl, brilliant!

Pumpkin carved with a Daisy flower in the front, and the daisy petals are not carved completely out, the white is left and the middle of the daisy is carved out.

Daisy Pumpkin funny story, the Daisy pumpkin was stolen off the front porch, I think the very next night it was made.  I guess it was very good.  They didn’t smash it, they took it, it was gone, not down the road, or around.  I didn’t take a very good picture of it, because I thought I could take more than one.  But it was semi carved, so the daisy petals had the orange skin taken off but the inner white skin was still there.

Black Crow for Halloween Weekend

I found some appropriate pictures to post relevant to the holiday, Halloween.   I do not know much about crows, but I do know we have many of them in Shasta and Trinity counties.  They are loud, big, and quite black.  If you have ever seen the movie, The Birds, you know that a flock of  large black crows gathering near you isn’t always a good omen.  Additionally, in scary movies, there often  is a large black crow to represent an an evil character when they are not in human form.  Why is that?  Apparently, according to Wikipedia, the black crows and ravens have been known to represent death, due to their black color, shriek calls, and also the fact that they eat carrion, which is dead meat.

These large foreboding birds are quite loud and are around all year long.  Interestingly enough, they are very susceptible to the West Nile Virus and can be an indicator of the deadly disease being present, if birds in that area, have died from it.

Vampire Pumpkin, Halloweeen 2009

Yesterday the neighbor helped me carve my pumpkin. She made a drawing on paper and then drew it on the pumpkin. I told her I wanted vampire teeth. She always comes up with creative ideas, she is a natural artist.

After we finished carving the pumpkin I put a pumpkin spice candle in the pumpkin. How appropriate is that? I liked the pumpkin so much it never made it outside. 🙂 thanks for your help M.!
