Thanksgiving Day

My aunt does a 25+ lb. turkey wonderfully stuffed, and roasted a lovely brown.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day, with lots of food and good company. My aunt and uncle hosted and it was a beautiful Thanksgiving spread as usual. She is amazing, what a meal! Everyone brought some wonderful dishes in addition. Check out the cute pilgrim hat cookies!

Fresh Garden Herbs, Oregono, Mint, Chives, and Basil

These are the herbs now in the garden. I love having the chives and mint on hand. The chives for cooking, and the mint for teas, and water also. The chives grow all year long in some parts of California and the mint also.

Garden Herbs, Shasta County

english thyme in my garden in Redding, California, VeroniqqueUpdate!  My herbs are doing wonderful!  The English thyme is still there and it’s been going for a couple of years now, and the parsley, the chives look beautiful and I can’t believe how well these herbs do over the years.  I just planted some basil, and I might plant some more parsley.
I planted English thyme, Italian parsley, and some regular Thyme.  I had some chives which were already growing in a tiny clay pot for a couple years.  Also oregano, which was in the same clay pot, but  I replanted this year, to be with the parsley and oregano and it seems to be doing much better.

I absolutely love having the fresh herbs on hand to cook with.  They are great for adding to a sautee of vegetables, or roasting a chicken with herbs and garlic.

Venison with onions, shallots, mushrooms, garlic, bell pepper and red wine.

A friend gave me some venison.  I cut into small medallions then tenderized them.  After that I seared them in some oil, then added them to my sauteed garlic, onions, shallots, green bell pepper, and mushrooms.  I added about 1/2 cup or so of red wine, and then let it simmer for just a few minutes.  It was quite delicious.  My cousin advised me that venison cooks very quickly.  She was right.

To compliment the dish I had some basmati rice and also broccoli and yams.  The yams were delicious. I cut them very thinly then boiled for just a few minutes, then I drained them, and put a small amount of butter in a pan, and cooked them fairly high.   I added a little brown sugar as I sauteed them for a few minutes.
