These poppies are magnificent! They are bright orange color, with hints of red and a very dark purple black to them. These particular flowers have been growing at the Highland Art Center in Weaverville, California, for many years. I haven’t seen any as large anywhere else in California, but I am sure they are out there!
These poppies usually bloom in May, or late May, so you have time to make it there this year. If you visit Weaverville, California, and enjoy art, you should stop in at the Highland Art Center. They are located on Main street. If you go in the spring, spring you will also see these wonderful flowers.

Also known as Papaver oreientale, these flowers are from the Caucuses of Turkey and northern Iran. The are similar to ranuncula flowers, which are wonderful also. I will have to go by the Art Center and see what they are looking like this year!
