Whiskeytown Lake, Oak Bottom Water Ditch Trail.

Beautiful Whiskeytown Lake in northern California, bright blue and green waters and blue skies with lots of pine trees and douglas fir trees.
Whiskeytown lake is usually always full in the summertime.
Whiskeytown Lake in Shasta county is a great getaway for the day for many Shasta county and Trinity county residents.  A great place to get out for hiking and getting outdoors.  We went for a hike last weekend out at Whiskeytown lake and it was quite warm.  The trail we chose was a beginning level trail, mostly shady and very pleasant overall.
Whiskeytown lake is full up to the shore with water, as well as other lakes in northern California.  Lot’s of rain and snow this year, and late in the season. This is going to be an excellent year to enjoy our rivers, creeks and lakes for sure.

Beautiful trail at Whiskeytown Lake, in Shasta county.
Oak Bottom Water Ditch Trail was originally a  canal system that provided water to the mining operations in Clear creek.  The Water Ditch Trail, meanders, along the lake and also highway 299 west towards Clear creek.  The trail is well shaded, and right on the lake for the most part.  We did not hike the whole trail, it is 2.75 miles one way.

Healdsburg Memorial Veterans Beach, Sonoma County

Train bridge in Healdsburg over the Russian river.
Train bridge over the Russian river, in Healdsburg, CA.
I have been visiting Healdsburg, California a bit more and exploring some of the neighborhoods.  I was driving by the river, and noticed the old train bridge.  I pulled over and ran down the tracks to take a couple of pictures.   I always drive over the car bridge, which in one of the pictures, you can see it in the distance.  That bridge crosses over at the Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach is a public beach for swimming and day camping of sorts, or picnics.

Lake Tahoe at Incline Villages, Hyatt Resort and Spa, in California, Veroniqque.
Lake Tahoe, at Incline Village, Hyatt Resort.

Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place to visit in the summer, and the winter.  In the summer, there are so many activities to do on the lake.  You can do about any water sport there is including para sailing, and catamarans, boating, skiing, anything you can think of that is permitted.  There are so many resorts, and places to visit, and explore.  Also there is  hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, historical mansions to visit.   Not only that, there are  plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, fine dining, art, festivals, 4th of July celebrations and so much more.

Lake Tahoe is amazing!

Incline Village, located on the border of Nevada and California, but on the Nevada side, the north east shore of Lake Tahoe.   The Hyatt Resort, Spa and Casino is a great place to stay.  Located right on the lake, the hotel offers all kinds of amenities, including a bar on their pier called Pier 111 Bar, you can find the link below.

If you never have visited Lake Tahoe, you really should try to, add that to your bucket list! 🙂  It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world.  The lake is beautiful, and pristine, and one of the largest alpine lakes in North America.  It is also the second deepest, right after, Crater Lake in Oregon.  Which is another amazing lake, that you should visit! 🙂 It’s about 7-8 hours drive from Tahoe, depending on the route.

Huge metal cooking pot looks rusted, and was part of the Olampoli estate.

Olampoli State Park, Highway 101, California

Pictured is a very old cement stairway to nothing, it's probably burned in the past.
Old stairway to a burned out building.

Olampoli State park is located right near the county lines of Sonoma county and Marin county.  This beautiful state park is just off the Highway 101 and isn’t far from San Francisco, or the nearby city of Santa Rosa, almost in the middle of these two cities.  Rolling hills and wine country could describe the area that surrounds Olampoli State Park.

This beautiful state park is so easy to miss off of highway 101 north of San Francisco south of Petaluma, CA. Believe it or not the rock band Grateful Dead lived here in 1966 and Janis Joplin has been known to have stayed here.

The grounds are amazing with beautiful old trees, gardens, an old fountain, and many historical signs explaining the history of the site. There are wild turkeys on the grounds also. If you prefer to just take a hike up the mountain you can do that too. There is also a huge Try Pot, which I included a picture about the history of this pot.

“The name “Olompali” comes from the Coast Miwok language and likely means “Southern village” or “Southern people”.
